The new Mt. Moriah Police Precinct represents a significant investment in public safety, community engagement, and officer wellness for the City of Memphis. Constructed by Zellner Construction Services and designed by Renaissance Group Architects, the facility replaces an outdated, undersized station with a state-of-the-art, energy-efficient, and community-focused building.
Built on the same site as the former precinct, the 17,950-square-foot facility was completed while maintaining active police operations. Once the new building became operational, the existing precinct was demolished, and new parking areas and site improvements were completed to finalize the campus.
The precinct features a 2,100-square-foot training and conference room with smart-screen technology for teleconferencing, interactive training, and community meetings. A 750-square-foot hardened storm shelter doubles as an additional training area, ensuring officer safety during severe weather. The facility also includes a fitness center, expanded locker rooms, and dedicated shift offices, all designed to promote morale, teamwork, and wellness.
From a design standpoint, the building blends security and approachability. Victorian-style globe lighting, brick accents, and open interiors establish a civic presence while maintaining a welcoming tone. The structure incorporates fire, wind, earthquake, and bullet-resistant materials, and integrates LED lighting, high-performance insulation, and computer-controlled HVAC systems for long-term sustainability and energy efficiency.
At the August ribbon-cutting, Mayor Paul Young called the project “an investment in safety, service, and trust.” Police Chief Cerelyn “CJ” Davis commended the new precinct as “a home for hardworking officers who deserve the best.”
The new Mt. Moriah Police Precinct stands as a beacon of progress and preparedness. It provides officers with the tools and environment they need to serve effectively and gives the Memphis community a modern, accessible space that fosters connection and trust.
