The Agricenter Renovations project in Shelby County was a multi-phase construction and renovation effort that enhanced key public spaces while addressing critical deferred maintenance needs throughout the facility. The scope included new ground-up restroom facilities, a covered front entrance featuring exposed glulam beams, interior office renovations, and a complete auditorium overhaul with upgraded finishes and audio/visual systems to create a state-of-the-art space for corporate and educational use.
In addition to these improvements, the project included repainting exposed structural steel and replacing glazing at the mezzanine level as part of a broader deferred maintenance initiative. While the original architectural design of the Agricenter remains a defining feature of the facility, it also created unique access challenges for completing the restoration work. Reaching all areas of the exposed structural steel required extensive pre-planning, specialized equipment, and carefully engineered access methods, including more than 200 feet of cantilevered reach.
To safely execute this portion of the work, strategic shoring was installed to support the placement of lift equipment on the mezzanine slab, allowing crews to access otherwise unreachable portions of the structure. The project also required the use of some of the largest boom lifts in the world, underscoring the complexity of the restoration effort and the level of coordination needed to complete the work safely and effectively.
Through phased construction, detailed coordination, and innovative means and methods, the Agricenter Renovations project modernized the facility, restored critical building components, and improved its long-term functionality, appearance, and performance.
